The importance of prevention and early identification of health concerns is a primary goal of the UAMS Head Start/Early Head Start Program.  We work with health care providers to help families connect to available resources in the community.  Healthy living habits are incorporated into the classroom on a daily basis.  Personal hygiene is part of your child’s daily routine, such as hand washing and brushing teeth.

Health Services offered by Head Start/Early Head Start:

  • Health, wellness, and safety education for families and children
  • Vision and Hearing Screening
  • HGB/Lead Screening
  • Blood Pressure
  • Physical and Dental Reminders
  • Fluoride Varnish

Health Requirements:

  • Up to Date Shot Record – completed within 15 days of entry to Program
  • Source of Ongoing Health Care – If you or your child do not have a source of ongoing health care or medical/dental home, we will assist you in accessing a source of care.
  • Current Physical Exam
  • Lead Screening
  • HGB/HCT check
  • Current Dental Exam
